Arcade Machine
Well here it is.  The cabinet is finally
finished for the arcade machine.
The "Batcade" name came from the
fact that our attic, where the
machine now resides used to have
bats living in it.  So the name is a
play on words a combination of
Bat-Cave and Arcade.  The
machine is a fully functioning
arcade machine.  It currently plays
over 250 different games.  It uses
multiple programs to emulate
different gaming machines. It
currently plays Arcade games, NES,
SNES, Genesis, and plays MP3
music through a Juke box program.
All the different emulation programs
are tied together using a "front-end",
basically ties all the programs together
so that they work together seamlessly.
The arcade machine is powered by a
1.1 Ghz Athlon processor and uses a
27" TV for the screen.  All controls are
are arcade machine accurate(seen
below)
Here you can see the first screen of
the front end and below that is a
sample of what the Arcade games
selection screen looks like showing
Terminator 2 selected.
Here you can see the access panel
and keyboard drawer pulled out.
During normal operation you can play
all games and the jukebox program
without using the keyboard and
mouse.  However it can still be used as
a normal computer with the mouse and
keyboard.  Below that picture you can
see what it looks like with the access
panel closed.  And the picture below
that shows the console shelf.  The
console shelf is a place where you can
hook up any modern Xbox, PS2, DVD
player or whatever else using Video
inputs and a power plug located on the
shelf
.
Here is a screen from the Jukebox. It
scrolls through many hundreds of
screens of songs.  The picture below
that shows the light guns that we are
currently setting up, and will support
two players at once. They can be used
with games like Area 51, Revolution-X,
Terminator 2, etc.  The first picture
above also shows the light gun in
action.  (the picture is kind of dark
sorry)
